Amon-Ra St. Brown Trump Dance Sports Controversy

Sometimes, NFL touchdown celebrations feel like a mini-drama unfolding live. But Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown took it up a notch with a celebration that sparked a social media frenzy. The reason? He performed the famous “Trump hand gesture” dance in the end zone, with Trump himself in attendance!

During a 9-yard reception in the opening quarter of Detroit’s 44-22 win over Washington, Amon-Ra showcased that dance. The result? The stadium and Twitter exploded with reactions—some calling it fun, others questioning what on earth was happening!

The celebration quickly turned physical in the second quarter when Washington’s Daron Payne punched Amon-Ra, leading to Payne’s ejection and a one-game suspension. Payne claimed that St. Brown threw the first strike, but defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw said, “The refs literally saw the first punch. Daron retaliated. I don’t blame him.”

St. Brown later clarified on his podcast that the dance had no political intention. “So, first of all, if I offended anyone, I do apologize,” he said. “It was just – we were having fun. If any president was at that game, and they had a dance, I would’ve done it. It had nothing to do with who the president was.”

Trump himself shared a clip on Truth Social captioned “Amon-Ra St. Trump,” complicating St. Brown’s non-political message even further. Many fans criticized him, saying things like, “Lost a lot of fans, bro,” while others asked, “So are we keeping politics out of sports, yes or no?” At the same time, some defended him, claiming it was clearly a joke taken too far.

On the field, Amon-Ra contributed five catches, 58 yards, and a touchdown, while Jared Goff connected with Jameson Williams six times for 119 yards and a score. The “Trump Dance” trend seems to have infiltrated sports already; UFC champ Jon Jones and U.S. soccer star Christian Pulisic have both performed it in recent events.

In the end, did NFL fans witness a political statement or just a funny touchdown dance? The answer is probably a mix of both—with a side of face-punch!
