It looks like some NFL teams are currently scrutinizing their coaching staff with a fine-tooth comb. Specifically, the Cleveland Browns and Las Vegas Raiders have reportedly conducted some “preliminary research” in search of their next head coach.

Basically, it’s a classic “maybe yes, maybe no” 50/50 scenario.

Las Vegas Raiders’ situation is a bit comical. Former Super Bowl-winning coach Pete Carroll came out of retirement to stabilize the team, but in his first season, the Raiders ended up with a league-worst 2–14 record. Star pass rusher Maxx Crosby was placed on IR, and after their tenth consecutive loss, it seems the team is headed straight for more drama. According to NFL Insider Tony Pauline, Carroll will likely be fired after Week 18. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added that the No. 1 draft pick might just trigger the leadership change. “This can change an organization,” Rapoport said.

The Cleveland Browns’ situation is equally dramatic. Under Coach Kevin Stefanski, the team has gone just 44–56 over six seasons. In the last two seasons, they’ve won only seven games, despite a long-term contract extension following an 11–6 record in 2023. Stefanski stayed tight-lipped about his future, focusing only on the final-week matchup against the Bengals: “My sole focus is on this game versus Cincinnati,” he said. “But I also would tell you I’m privileged to have this job.”

Both teams’ coaching chairs are spinning. The Browns might eye Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, while Carroll’s future with the Raiders remains uncertain. It’s safe to say, the musical chairs in NFL offices are about to get colorful.
