Oh boy, Chargers fans must be spilling their coffee right about now! The NFL has just dropped a bombshell, suspending linebacker Denzel Perryman for two games. The reason? “Repeated violations of playing rules intended to protect the health and safety of players” – which, honestly, sounds like Perryman was starring in an action movie stunt rather than playing football.
NFL suspended Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman two games for what it called “repeated violations of playing rules intended to protect the health and safety of players, including during Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.”

The incident happened in the second quarter of the Chargers vs. Dallas Cowboys game, where Perryman delivered a helmet-to-helmet hit on Ryan Flournoy, who was flat on the ground at the time. And yet, Perryman stayed in the game and finished with six tackles – second-most on the team. It really looked like he wasn’t chasing the ball, but making sure his name went down in football history.
Coach John Harbaugh, ever the voice of cautious optimism, commented, “I thought he was trying to go over the tackle and over the ball carrier and hopefully that’ll be taken into consideration on appeal,” adding, “I think Denzel’s done a good job — a great job — of trying to take the helmet out of his play. And I know he’ll continue to do that.”
Of course, Perryman will appeal the suspension. But the bad news for Chargers fans? This suspension comes at the most critical point of their season. Win the last two games, and the Chargers would clinch the AFC West for the first time since 2009 and host a playoff game. Losing one of their best defensive players is a big blow.
The whole situation feels like a perfect mix of comedy and drama. On one hand, big dreams; on the other, Perryman’s “love affair with helmets.” For those thinking he got a little too excited, you’re probably right. The NFL says player safety is top priority, and Perryman says, “I was just trying to play by the rules.”
In the end, Chargers fans are left waiting, holding their breath to see how the games play out. What Perryman does next on the field? That’s the real suspense.
