We all know why people sometimes step away from Facebook or Instagram—nobody wants to look foolish. Well, three-time All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones has just taken that lesson to heart. His heroic move to deactivate social media accounts came after a recent last-second “fluke play” against the Jaguars left Chiefs fans shaking their heads.

In the final moments of the game, the Chiefs had driven 86 yards to take the lead. But then Trevor Lawrence worked his magic. With a pass interference call in the end zone and 23 seconds left, first-and-goal was set—but the Chiefs had zero timeouts. Lawrence took the snap, got his foot stepped on by his guard, stumbled—and while he scrambled to his feet and into the end zone, Jones just stood there watching. Jacksonville snatched a 31-28 victory.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid, ever the calm voice of reason, said, “You can’t think that the guy is down. You can’t think that. You have to play the play. He knows. He’s been around this a long time. That’s really what it came down to.”

Jones himself admitted after the game, “I thought multiple times we had him.” He continued, “We’ve just got to finish. Multiple guys there that we’ve just got to finish that play. It was a fluke play for him to be able to break that many tackles. Yeah, I put it on us as a defense. We’ve got to finish.”

This isn’t new for Jones. In the season opener in Brazil against the Chargers, he had a key blown play that left the Chiefs’ victory hanging by a thread. So far this season, Jones has only seven tackles and one sack—hardly the production expected after signing a $158.75 million contract.

Still, Chris isn’t giving up, showing faith in his team, “We’re going to continue to bounce back. I think this group will bounce back. I think we’re going to fix the errors that we can control, the penalties. Once we eliminate the penalties and play disciplined football, I think we’ll put ourselves in good position to win.”

Maybe stepping away from social media will give Chris some peace of mind—but for fans, some “stumble plays” are just impossible to forget.
