Liam Coen vs. Robert Saleh From “Signal Stealing” to “Keep my name out of your mouth” Drama

The Jacksonville Jaguars this season look less like a football team and more like a drama series. New head coach Liam Coen, brought in from Tampa Bay as the “last gasp to save the Trevor Lawrence era,” isn’t just delivering wins—he’s delivering sideline soap operas too.

On Sunday, the Jaguars stunned the unbeaten 49ers with a 26-21 victory. Travis Etienne Jr. stole the show with 124 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries, while the Jags’ defense picked off Brock Purdy twice.

But the real highlight? A postgame WWE-style showdown.

49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh had stirred things up earlier by claiming Coen and his staff run a “really advanced signal-stealing system.” Basically, he accused them of “legal hacking.” Unsurprisingly, Coen didn’t take that well.

So after the game, Coen marched right up to Saleh and dropped the line heard ‘round the NFL:

Honestly, it sounded like the NFL’s version of the 2024 Oscars slap moment.

Saleh’s full pregame statement was that the Jaguars staff “use formations to confuse opponents and pick up signals” and that “the entire Sean McVay coaching tree is elite at it.” That alone was enough to light Coen’s fuse.

In his press conference afterward, when reporters tried to press the issue, Coen wasted no time shutting them down:

Translation: “We won, that’s all that matters—next question.”

For the fans, though, it was bonus entertainment. Jaguars vs. 49ers on the field, and Coen vs. Saleh on the sidelines. The NFL just cashed in on free ratings.
