Jake Ferguson’s ‘Magical’ OPI in Cowboys–Lions Game Has Fans Blaming the Refs!

Thursday Night Football turned into a theatrical spectacle during the Cowboys–Lions matchup. As the Cowboys were trying to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter, a bizarre Offensive Pass Interference (OPI) call on Jake Ferguson spoiled the moment. The score was 30–27, and Dallas was just one possession away. Then came the call that left fans in sheer disbelief.

When Dak Prescott threw to Ferguson, he couldn’t come down with the ball, but there was no obvious illegal contact or push-off. Yet, suddenly, the refs threw the OPI flag. Prime Video rules analyst Terry McAulay weighed in: “I just see him kind of swimming through. I don’t see offensive pass interference. He swims through, which is perfectly legal, and then gets grabbed. I don’t see offensive pass interference at all.”

Fans didn’t take the call lightly either. One wrote,

Another questioned,

In the end, the penalty was declined, and the Cowboys kicked a field goal to cut the Lions’ lead to seven. But on the next drive, Jahmyr Gibbs scored a touchdown to put the Lions up 44–30 and secure the win. Overall, the Lions deserved the victory, showing stronger performance while the Cowboys committed three turnovers and allowed five sacks.

Still, without that OPI drama, the Cowboys–Lions game might have felt like a straight-up comedy show. Football fans are still buzzing on social media about that “ridiculous call.”
