Just when you thought football was all about the scoreboard and sliding tackles, DK Metcalf came along to prove that on-field action isn’t limited to catching passes. During this weekend’s Steelers vs. Lions matchup, the 28-year-old wide receiver created a moment that fans will probably never forget.

In the second quarter, Metcalf was spotted having a tense conversation with a Lions fan wearing a bright blue wig. CBS broadcast showed the fan leaning over the barrier to talk to Metcalf, who was on the field at the time. What happened next looked straight out of a live-action sports movie—Metcalf grabbed the fan’s T-shirt and, in a split second, delivered a right-handed punch. The fan threw his arms in the air, and commentator Jim Nantz remarked, “Not gonna have great consequences for the Steelers and Metcalf.”

The fan, named Ryan Kennedy from Pinckney, Mich, told the Detroit Free Press right after the incident, “My name is ‘Biggest Detroit Lions Fan Ever That Got Attacked by DeKaylin Zecharius Metcalf.'” Yes, a name long enough to be a headline itself—DKM’s punch has officially left its mark. He added, “What, my full name isn’t is DeKaylin Zecharius Metcalf. He doesn’t like his government name. I called him that, and then he grabbed me and ripped my shirt. I’m a little shocked. Like everyone’s talking to me. I’m a little rattled, but I just want the Lions to win, baby.”

At that moment, the NFL didn’t intervene on the spot. The league will review the footage and could determine a punishment—similar to the earlier Lamar Jackson incident this season. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin admitted after the game that he hadn’t seen the footage and hadn’t had a chance to speak with DK.

In the end, the Steelers won 29-24 over the Lions, but DK Metcalf’s punch left a lasting impression for anyone watching. Sometimes on the football field, a fist can be more memorable than a touchdown—especially when it lands directly in a fan’s face.
