Former Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy—once known for bulldozing defenses—has now bulldozed traffic laws instead. The result? A 180-day sentence in Arizona for an “Extreme DUI” case. This incident is a sharp reminder that there’s a big difference between speed on the field and recklessness on the road.
According to a TMZ Sports report, Lacy was arrested in September 2024 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Why was he pulled over? Police say he was spotted “committing several traffic violations.” One violation after another, as if traffic rules were the opposing defense.
The most alarming detail surfaced through 911 call records. Another driver phoned authorities, reporting that Lacy was driving so erratically they feared he was “going to kill somebody.” That single sentence captures just how dangerous the situation had become.
The police report didn’t help Lacy’s case either. The arresting officer noted that Lacy’s “speech was slow. Slurred and mumbled as soon as [the arresting officer] began talking to him.” In other words, even before the tests, the signs were obvious.
Then came the number that sealed the case. Lacy was given a breathalyzer test, which showed a blood alcohol level of .325—more than four times Arizona’s legal limit of .08. Because of this, he was charged with what’s legally known as an “Extreme DUI,” a misdemeanor offense.
What makes the story even more striking is Lacy’s past. Drafted by the Packers in the second round in 2013, he rushed for 1,178 yards and scored 11 touchdowns in his rookie season, earning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. He followed that up with another 1,000-yard season in 2014. After that, ankle injuries slowed him down, and following a stint with Seattle in 2017, his NFL career came to an end.
The big question now is simple: how did a player who once ran through defensive lines end up crossing the line in his personal life?
On the field, Eddie Lacy was a power runner. On the road? That power clearly went too far.
