Atlanta Falcons’ kicking world just went through a dramatic plot twist – and yes, we’re all still crying over that “missed 44-yard field goal” moment. After seven years, the Falcons officially parted ways with kicker Younghoe Koo, welcoming new hero Parker Romo into the spotlight. The hints were there earlier, but now it’s official

Koo’s final game was like a tragicomedy – he aimed for a 44-yard field goal, thinking precision was on his side, but timing and fate had other plans. Just five days after that miss, Koo was released, and Romo signed a two-year deal to join the Falcons’ active roster.
Romo, who was the Vikings’ kicker last season, delivered a perfect performance on Monday night, making it clear that Koo’s time in Atlanta had ended. Koo, who had been a constant presence since 2019, converted only 25 of 34 field goals in 2024 – the worst season of his career. Ah, kicking in the NFL – sometimes the pressure just kicks back.
Koo’s journey wasn’t exactly a love story from the start – he struggled as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Chargers and was cut after four games. But he bounced back with the Falcons, even making the Pro Bowl in 2020 by leading the NFL with 37 made field goals and converting 94.9% of his attempts. Now his Falcons chapter is closed, and fans are left wondering which team will pick him up next – because the NFL kicking carousel never stops.
And Romo? He’s now stepping in as the new hero. The Falcons hope he brings some consistency, while Lenny Krieg still lurks on the practice squad – the German-born kicker is like a cup of coffee: sometimes bold, sometimes unpredictable.
Koo’s ride is over, Romo’s journey begins, and the Falcons’ kicking adventure is far from over.
