New York Giants fans finally heard the announcement yesterday that everyone knew was coming but nobody wanted to say out loud. Brian Daboll politely grabbed the mic and made it clear—this decision was all him. Translation: Russell Wilson’s grandpa-QB act is over, and the stage now belongs to rookie Jaxson Dart.
In Daboll’s own words:
Brian Daboll very clear that this is "my decision" to start Jaxson Dart. Talked with ownership and the front office but he's adamant this was his choice. #Giants pic.twitter.com/h0JwmpsEWN

Basically, he stood there like a Bollywood hero declaring, “Look, I’m the one taking all the heat. Not the owners, not the front office, not the players—just me.”
Then he doubled down and confirmed Dart will be the QB1 for the rest of the season.

Of course, fans are calling it what it really is—a “job-saving move.” Because let’s be honest, sticking with Russell Wilson meant watching a live-action version of “Worst QB Throws Compilation” on YouTube every Sunday. Red zone possessions were basically guaranteed heartbreaks, not touchdowns.
Daboll kept hammering it home:
One thing Giants coach Brian Daboll made crystal clear: “It’s my decision,” he said, to switch from veteran QB Russell Wilson to rookie QB Jaxson Dart.

He was vague on his reasoning, wouldn’t say if he consulted with anyone, and wouldn’t say if it was a job-saving maneuver.
Even though he wouldn’t spell it out, everybody knows why. With Wilson, you get injuries, boos, and humiliation. With Dart, at least you get hope—he’s young, raw, and has a pocket full of “maybe.”
The key now is consistency. Dart has to stay in as QB1 no matter how rocky the first couple games are. Pulling him in and out would crush his confidence. Giants fans aren’t delusional; nobody’s expecting the playoffs this year. What they do want is some sign of life, something that says next year won’t be just another dumpster fire.
So yeah, the Russell Wilson era is over. The Jaxson Dart show has officially begun. Just keep him healthy, keep the season from being a total trainwreck, and at least fans will buy tickets to see “The Dart Show.”
