Wednesday night’s Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl delivered the kind of drama that feels less like a football game and more like an over-the-top action movie. Hawaii’s Rainbow Warriors pulled off a jaw-dropping comeback from a 21–0 hole to defeat the California Golden Bears. But just when fans thought the script had reached its happy ending, the story took a sharp turn into pure mayhem.
As the clock hit zero, Hawaii defensive back Peter Manuma appeared to shove Cal wide receiver Quaron Adams. That single moment was all it took to light the fuse. Several Cal players rushed in, words turned into shoves, shoves turned into punches, and suddenly the sideline looked more like a fight club than a football field.
Naturally, the internet had a field day with it. One viral reaction perfectly summed up the absurd timing:
Nothing like a Christmas Eve Bowl Brawl to end the Hawaii Bowl pic.twitter.com/4CnnKYdl2m

Because yes, nothing says holiday spirit quite like helmets flying and players trading blows under stadium lights.
Another clip quickly made the rounds online, giving fans a fresh look at the chaos. Along with it came the stunned caption,

And honestly, no matter how many angles you watch, it’s still hard to believe this all erupted right after one of the biggest comebacks in bowl history.
The madness at the end was so intense that one observer didn’t hold back, writing,
The end of the Hawaii bowl was absolute mayhem with punches thrown and helmets launched.

It’s hard to argue with that. While bowl games are supposed to be celebrations of the season, this one briefly turned into something straight out of a wrestling promo.
What makes it all even more surreal is how incredible Hawaii’s comeback was. Down 21–0 in the first quarter, the Rainbow Warriors refused to fold. They chipped away, stayed stubbornly alive, and then exploded in the fourth quarter to complete the largest comeback in Hawaii Bowl history. That kind of emotional swing can push any group of competitors to the edge, and on this night, the edge definitely pushed back.
So the 2025 Hawaii Bowl will be remembered for two very different reasons. On one hand, it was a heroic, record-setting rally that fans will talk about for years. On the other, it was a post-game brawl that ensured the highlights would be shared far beyond the sports world.
In the end, Hawaii got the win, California got the heartbreak, and the internet got exactly what it loves most: absolute chaos wrapped in a holiday-themed sports spectacle.
