The New York Giants may be having another gloomy season in the standings, but Jaxson Dart has been one of the few bright, shiny spots in an otherwise cloudy year. Still, not everyone is buying into the Dart hype train. CBS Sports analyst and former Giants quarterback Danny Kanell recently decided to throw some doubt into the conversation, and that’s where the drama really kicked off.

Kanell didn’t sugarcoat his feelings when he said, “I don’t know if Jaxson Dart is the long-term answer for the Giants,”. In his mind, a first-round quarterback is supposed to be the guy you can lock in for a decade or more, and Dart hasn’t fully convinced him yet. He went on to explain, “When I think of a first-round draft pick, I think of somebody that you should picture for 10 to 12 years is going to be your guy. I still haven’t seen the development as a passer.” According to Kanell, Dart is still relying too much on his legs, and the Giants are even designing runs for him, which doesn’t scream “franchise quarterback” to everyone watching.

But while Kanell was calmly breaking things down on TV, Jaxson Dart’s father, Brandon Dart, was clearly not in the mood for polite analysis. After hearing the comments, he jumped straight into protective dad mode and delivered a response that went viral in seconds:

Nothing says “don’t talk about my kid” quite like a blunt, unfiltered one-liner.

What makes this whole situation even more entertaining is that Dart’s actual numbers tell a pretty strong story. This season he has completed 63.2% of his passes for 2,042 yards with 13 touchdowns and only five interceptions, which puts him among the safer quarterbacks in the league when it comes to turnovers. On top of that, he has added 455 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the ground, making him a nightmare for defenses that have to worry about both his arm and his legs.

In Sunday’s win over the Raiders, Dart showed exactly why the Giants are excited about him. He went 22-of-30 for 207 yards through the air and didn’t throw a single interception. Even though he didn’t toss a touchdown, he made up for it by running for 48 yards and scoring twice on the ground, once again proving that his dual-threat style can change games.

The only real concern surrounding Dart is the punishment he takes when he runs. He has already been checked for concussions multiple times and even missed two games after getting hurt against the Chicago Bears. That’s the risky side of being a quarterback who likes to take off and run.

Still, despite the criticism and the bruises, the Giants believe they’ve found their quarterback of the future and are fully committed to Dart as their starter in 2026 and beyond. Whether Kanell’s doubts age well or not, one thing is already clear: Jaxson Dart has a fiercely loyal dad, and the NFL has a brand-new off-field rivalry to enjoy.
