Postgame drama in the NFL is nothing new, but Chargers QB Justin Herbert may have just opened an entirely new chapter—one broken hand, one overtime win, one mildly annoyed face, and one ESPN microphone standing in his way. Result? The internet split in half: “Herbert is rude!” vs “Let him celebrate, man!”
After a dramatic 22–19 overtime win against the Philadelphia Eagles, Herbert was understandably trying to celebrate with his teammates. The only problem—ESPN’s Laura Rutledge had her mandatory postgame interview radar locked on him.
Herbert was walking. Rutledge was chasing. The mic was approaching.
"I'm trying to celebrate with my team."

“Ma’am please, my teammates are emotionally waiting for me.”
Rutledge, however, is a professional and does not believe in the concept of ‘Let him go.’ With a quick “really fast” promise, she made Herbert stop. Four questions, under a minute. Herbert’s answers? Like someone warned him: “Keep it short or lose points.”
When asked how he felt while dealing with his broken hand, he replied with the energy of a man whose soul has already left the interview:
“Feel pretty good, thank you.”
Meanwhile, the internet was going full Super Bowl mode.
One crowd: “Dude, you’re the QB, this is part of the job. Be more professional.”
Second crowd: “Forget interviews. Go back to the studio. Roll ads. No one cares.”
Third crowd: “The man is in pain and still stood there answering questions. Respect!”
Head coach Jim Harbaugh called him a ‘superhero’, and honestly—66 rushing yards, three scramble first downs, one week post-surgery? Yeah, the mic shove is absolutely within his rights.
In the end? Chargers move to 9–4, keeping pressure on the Broncos. Eagles drop to 8–5 but stay atop the NFC East. But in meme-land, the real winner is that tiny mic-deflecting moment.
