BREAKING: Kevin Stefanski Says Kenny Pickett Should Be Available Week 1
The Cleveland Browns finished the preseason 3–0 and are now shifting focus to their Sept. 7 opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Quarterback Kenny Pickett, who has been sidelined since July 26 with a hamstring injury, is nearing a return. Head coach Kevin Stefanski sounded optimistic, saying, “I think he will be available Week 1. He’s getting better every day.” Pickett has already worked his way back into individual and team drills, including 11-on-11 reps earlier this month.
With veteran Joe Flacco set as the starter, the Browns are still evaluating whether Pickett or rookie Dillon Gabriel will serve as the backup in Week 1.
There were also updates on other injuries: Ethan Pocic (C) and Blake Whiteheart (TE) both suffered knee injuries in the preseason finale but could be available for the opener. Julian Okwara (DE) is recovering from a rib injury, though Stefanski praised his strong camp performance, saying, “He has had a nice camp.”
Stefanski also emphasized the importance of using this week to focus on fundamentals before fully turning attention to Cincinnati: “A lot of what we’ll do this week will be about sharpening our scheme, sharpening our fundamentals and techniques.”
