NFL vs NFLPA: Owners Fire Back Over Annual Report Cards!

NFL owners have apparently had enough! Out of nowhere, they’ve filed a grievance against the NFLPA over the union’s yearly “report cards.” According to the owners, these report cards spread “public criticism” and violate the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

The funniest part? New York Jets chairman Woody Johnson is leading the charge. And let’s not forget—he himself once received an F grade from his players. So, you can imagine his reaction when he called these reports “totally bogus”

The NFLPA, however, isn’t backing down. In an email to players, they wrote, “We have responded to the grievance with our intention to fight against this action and continue what’s clearly become an effective tool for comparing workplace standards across the league…” In other words, the flow of player insights won’t stop, no matter how much the owners complain.

These report cards aren’t just about wins on the field—they show how well teams take care of players’ families, training staff, and travel arrangements. And some teams, like the Minnesota Vikings and Miami Dolphins, truly shine with A+ grades. Meanwhile, Woody Johnson and a few other owners got D’s or worse, which explains their frustration.

One team executive told ESPN, “It could make you better, but they don’t share how. They just take snippets to embarrass people without sharing the data.” Basically, the owners feel players are only shaming them publicly without giving constructive feedback.

So, the NFL report card drama is now at full throttle. Owners feel wronged, and players insist this is an essential tool. An arbitrator is expected to deliver a final decision by February 2026.

The real question: winning games may bring joy on the field, but who will handle the sting of these report cards in the office? Will the owners learn to laugh off an F, or will yet another grievance be filed?
