In Dallas, football always comes with a bit of drama, and this time the twist landed on linebacker Logan Wilson. After bringing him in at the trade deadline with plenty of hope, the Cowboys have already shown him the exit door. Yes, on Friday, Dallas officially waived Wilson and instantly saved around $6.5 million in salary cap space. In other words, a classic sports move: “Thanks for coming, but we’re good now.”
Wilson’s Dallas chapter lasted just seven games. He recorded 28 tackles and a forced fumble – not terrible numbers, but not enough to lock down a starting spot either. The interesting part? Even with linebacker issues, the coaching staff didn’t consistently trust him as a starter. He even spent the Christmas Day matchup watching from the sideline without playing a single snap. Imagine that — football as a holiday gift… that never got opened.

So yes, a future seventh-round pick brought him in — and future planning pushed him out. That’s the NFL reality: less emotion, more cap math.
Before Dallas, Wilson built a strong résumé with Cincinnati. Across five seasons he started 65 games, grabbed 11 interceptions, and played a key role in the Bengals’ Super Bowl run. That experience made him an intriguing addition for Dallas, but the fit never fully clicked. Sometimes it’s scheme, sometimes opportunity, sometimes timing — in Wilson’s case, probably a mix of all three.
For the Cowboys, this looks like a calculated move. The team appears ready to lean into younger, faster options at linebacker while keeping financial flexibility. For Wilson, it simply means the next chapter begins. NFL careers rarely end with one roster decision — they just shift jerseys. And who knows? A revenge arc next season is always on the table.
