It looks like the Los Angeles Rams decided this week that their secondary needed a serious upgrade… and they weren’t going to do it halfway. First came the trade for Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie, and now the team has doubled down by re-signing safety Kam Curl to a brand-new three-year contract.
In simple terms: Curl isn’t going anywhere.
The Rams moved quickly before free agency even had a chance to begin, making sure other teams could only watch from a distance while Los Angeles secured one of its key defensive pieces.
The #Rams and star S Kam Curl have agreed to terms on a new deal to keep him in Los Angeles before free agency, per The Insiders.

And honestly, it has been a pretty big week for that secondary. Curl gets financial security, the Rams get stability on defense, and opposing quarterbacks get one more reason to hesitate before throwing deep.
Curl’s journey to this point hasn’t exactly been the flashy, first-round-pick story. He entered the league as a seventh-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft with Washington. At the time, he wasn’t expected to become a headline name. But like many late-round success stories, he gradually proved he belonged.
In 2024, he signed a two-year $8.75 million deal with the Rams and quickly became a valuable piece of their defense. Fast forward a couple of seasons, and the team clearly decided he was worth keeping around much longer.
The 2025 season was especially impressive for Curl. He set career highs with 122 total tackles and 79 solo tackles, showing just how active he was across the field. He also grabbed two interceptions during the regular season and added another crucial one in the playoffs, helping push the Rams all the way to the NFC Championship Game.
Looking at his overall NFL numbers, Curl has quietly built a strong résumé. Across 93 career regular-season games, he has recorded five interceptions, eight sacks, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and 28 passes defended.
Not bad for a seventh-round pick who wasn’t supposed to be a star.
With Curl locked in and new talent arriving in the secondary, the Rams are clearly sending a message: their defense isn’t just trying to compete next season, it’s aiming to dominate.
