The Cleveland Browns are bringing as much drama off the field as they are on it this season. With a 1-3 record, rookie QB Dillon Gabriel will start against the Vikings on Sunday, while veteran Joe Flacco serves as backup. And in the middle of all this chaos, first-year quarterback Shedeur Sanders decided not to answer reporters—literally. Instead, he just mouthed words like a silent movie actor.
Apparently, this silent protest was aimed at Rex Ryan’s criticism. Earlier this week, Ryan said Sanders should be “embarrassed” for being third on the Browns’ depth chart this fall. He even hinted that Sanders hasn’t been putting in enough work behind the scenes.
But did the silent act really help? Dan Orlovsky didn’t think so.
“I actually don’t think there is a time and place to act like that as a quarterback,” Orlovsky explained, per Chris Rosvoglou of The Spun. “Everything you do when you’re a quarterback – I don’t care if you’re first, second or third – is a job interview. My question to Shedeur would be: Are you helping yourself in your own building? Did that 30 or 40 seconds help you in your own building when it comes to what they think you can be in the future? And did you help yourself outside of the building? There’s 64 jobs, essentially, at that spot in the NFL. Did that 30 or 40 seconds help your future there or elsewhere?”
Meanwhile, Ryan Clark pointed out just how strange Sanders’ situation really is.
Ryan Clark believes Shedeur Sanders is in "the most unique situation we've ever seen a young quarterback be in. There are no other third quarterbacks on the depth chart getting interviewed every day" pic.twitter.com/IrV9BsaXTO

Dan Labbe of the Orange and Brown Talk Podcast went even further, calling the incident one of the most bizarre things he’s seen inside the Browns’ facility. According to him, Sanders showed on Wednesday that he’s clearly not mature enough to be a starting NFL quarterback.
And the Browns’ coaching staff seems to agree. There’s no indication that Sanders is anywhere near getting a start. Even if Gabriel struggles against Minnesota’s defense, don’t expect to see Shedeur taking snaps anytime soon.
At the end of the day, Shedeur Sanders is making headlines more for his sideline stunts than anything on the field. Browns fans may be hoping for wins, but inside the locker room, it feels like they’re just waiting for the next episode of “Shedeur’s Silent Show.”
