Trump Stadium News

Washington’s new $3.7 billion stadium is drawing attention from all sides. And now, a new twist—Donald Trump reportedly wants the stadium to bear his name. According to ESPN, Trump has expressed this wish.

The new stadium will be built on the historic RFK Stadium site, which served as the Commanders’ home from 1961 to 1996. A senior White House official said, “It’s what the president wants, and it will probably happen.” While no official agreement has been made yet, informal discussions have already taken place.

Trump will attend Sunday’s Commanders-Lions game and participate in a halftime tribute to the military. Commanders Team President Mark Clouse stated,

Naming the stadium goes beyond regular corporate sponsorship rights and will require approvals from several authorities. One source noted, “He has leverage. He can make things difficult through environmental approvals or other channels to ensure the stadium carries his name.” So while multiple agencies are involved in the naming process, influential voices clearly play a role.

The new 65,000-seat domed venue is scheduled to open in 2030 and will feature housing, retail, and sports facilities. The final naming decision will involve the D.C. Council and the National Park Service.

Fans are now left imagining what the stadium name might be—and whether their attention will stay on the games or the name debate. Time will tell.
