Tyson Bagent Breaks Down in Tears After $10M Extension, Talks Family and Giving Back
Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent recently signed a two-year, $10 million contract extension with the Chicago Bears, a deal that could rise to $16 million with incentives. While it may not be the largest figure on the Bears’ salary cap, the deal holds deep personal significance for Bagent.
The 25-year-old quarterback became emotional when discussing the contract, which will take effect after the 2025 season and makes him one of the highest-paid backup QBs in the NFL.
“A lot of people don’t know this, but my dad, he’s my right-hand man,” Bagent shared, fighting back tears. “He didn’t even have running water until he was in high school. There’s definitely a lot of things — and people — that I could certainly help with this gift I’ve been blessed with. Little things like that, I don’t really even know anybody back at home that doesn’t need money. It feels good. It’s certainly a weight off my shoulders, my family’s shoulders. It definitely means a lot.”
For Bagent, the extension is more than just numbers on a contract — it’s a way to give back to his family and community, and a recognition of the hard work he’s put in to reach the NFL despite going undrafted. His story is a reminder that for some players, success is measured not just in stats, but in the lives they can positively impact.
