Once known as a powerful tight end on the NFL field, Vernon Davis is now making headlines for a very different reason. Instead of trophies or movie cameras, his name is appearing in court documents. The language of the case makes it clear this is not social media gossip, but an officially filed criminal complaint.
According to the complaint submitted on January 8, 2026, a woman has accused Davis of being physically aggressive during a heated argument in May 2025 at his home. The dispute reportedly centered around her pregnancy and abortion. What allegedly began as a verbal argument escalated into something much more serious. The woman claims Davis threw magazines and books at her, actions that, if proven, would qualify as assault.

The complaint does not stop there. It also describes a second incident on June 7, when another argument allegedly broke out. The woman claims Davis slapped her and told her not to question him. The filing further references an earlier physical altercation that reportedly left visible bruises and is connected to a separate open assault and strangulation case.

From a legal standpoint, it is important to note that these are allegations only. Until a court reaches a verdict, Davis is presumed innocent under the law. Still, for a former sixth overall draft pick who played for the 49ers, Broncos, and Commanders, this situation marks one of the most troubling chapters of his post football life. After retiring from the NFL, Davis transitioned into acting and other ventures. Now, instead of premieres or sports highlights, he is preparing for a court appearance scheduled for February 2026.
Dominating on the field, performing on camera, and defending oneself in court are three very different arenas. This third one, however, comes with rules that are far less forgiving.
