Minnesota winters are long, and it looks like Brian Flores’ stay with the Vikings will be just as long. One of the sharpest defensive minds in the NFL is remaining in Minnesota after agreeing to a contract extension as defensive coordinator. The only catch is if a head coaching opportunity comes calling, the door is still open.
Over three seasons, Flores has turned the Vikings defense into one of the league’s most disciplined and feared units. Holding opponents to an average of just 19.2 points per game ranks second-best in the entire NFL. If defense were a movie genre, this one would be a thriller, and Flores is clearly the director.
The 2025 season only strengthened his case. Minnesota allowed an average of 158.5 passing yards per game, again second fewest in the league. Only the Buffalo Bills were slightly better. While flashy offenses grab headlines, championships are built on defense, and Flores keeps proving that point week after week.
The Vikings’ 2024 campaign was also one to remember. A 14-3 regular season record, a playoff berth, and the second-most wins in franchise history. Flores’ impact was impossible to ignore, which is why Minnesota moved quickly once his contract expired and interest started building around the league.
Fans did not hide their excitement when the news broke. The team’s official announcement captured that emotion perfectly
FLO!!!

What makes this even more interesting is that Flores is still very much in demand. He remains a candidate for the Steelers, Ravens, and Raiders head coaching vacancies, while also interviewing for defensive coordinator roles with the Commanders and Cowboys. One foot is firmly planted in Minnesota, while the other seems ready to step anywhere in the NFL.
For now, though, the Vikings are enjoying a true “Flo state” on defense. Opposing quarterbacks feel the pressure, rival coaches lose sleep, and Minnesota fans can sit back and enjoy the show.
